About

Bajeti Hub (formerly International Budget Partnership Kenya) is a Kenyan non-profit organisation working to advance transparency, accountability, participation, and equity in national and sub-national budgeting processes. We believe that greater transparency, inclusion, and equity in how public budgets are formulated and executed leads to enhanced accountability and better services especially for poor and marginalised populations. Our approach entails developing a rigorous body of evidence on public finance, developing citizens’ and civil society capacities to deliberate on budget decisions and engage with governments, and partnering with development partners, governments, civil society actors and citizens to co-create sustainable models in the PFM space.

Our History

Bajeti Hub began its work in Kenya as a country office of the International Budget Partnership (IBP) just before 2010, focusing on supporting civil society organisations (CSOs) and citizens in social accountability. In 2011, it launched full-time in-country programs. By 2013, Bajeti Hub started flagship budget training programs for CSOs and provided technical support to the government, leveraging Kenya’s 2010 public finance reforms.

In April 2014, IBP Kenya became a fully registered national organisation. In 2015, we started the County Budget Transparency Survey which has grown to one of the most comprehensive sub-national budget openness’s surveys in the world.

From 2018, through the Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge (SPARK) program, Bajeti Hub trained over 100 county budget facilitators and more than 1000 community budget champions, expanding support to CSOs across Kenya’s 47 counties.

Today, Bajeti Hub supports five regional budget hubs, serving as a platform for budget advocacy at national and county levels, influencing public finance norms locally and globally. For over more than a decade, Bajeti Hub has established itself as a key analytical and advocacy resource on public finance in Kenya.

Our Approach

Equipping civil society organisations and citizens for impactful budget advocacy is at the core of Bajeti Hub’s work. We achieve this through deep and sustained engagement, providing training and support in citizen advocacy, evidence-based research and analysis, technical assistance to government, ongoing learning opportunities, and convening key stakeholders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does Bajeti Hub do?

Our core vision is a Kenya where respect for economic and social rights as outlined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 is enabled through robust public budgets that are reflective of and responsive to the stated needs and priorities of citizens across the country. To achieve this, we promote more open, inclusive and participatory budget processes in Kenya, with the goal of ensuring that public resources are raised and used in ways that are equitable and benefit all citizens. We do this through collaborative research, capacity building and advocacy efforts at the local and national level with civil society, government, and citizens.

Why did Bajeti hub change its name from IBP Kenya?

Since 2014, IBP Kenya started implementing a wider set of programmes and building the systems necessary to run more independently. By 2021 the organisation had most of the necessary systems to run as a full national organisation and started a process to spin off from IBP Inc. In 2024, Bajeti Hub completed the spin off from IBP Inc. and officially became a fully Kenyan owned and Kenyan led organisation. While the organisation has changed its name, it continues to commit its work to the value of budgets that are transparent, inclusive, equitable and responsive to the needs of citizens.
